Retratos en óleo de gran formato que comenzó con un viaje maravilloso que hicimos Raúl Barajas y yo a Perú y Bolivia a finales del 2019. Proyecto nacido de la mente y corazón de Miguel Benavides con el apoyo del Programa de Exposición de Artistas Internacionales Dame Jillian Sackler y por supuesto el apoyo siempre incondicional de mi gran Chac Nahual, extraordinario fotógrafo.

La pintura de los retratos indígenas es para mí un acto de resistencia, un gesto de empoderamiento, visibilización y memoria de los pueblos originarios, de su sabiduría, de sus formas alternas de entender la realidad, de percibir y crear la vida. Las pinturas son un acto encauzado a desmontar el clasismo y racismo imperante aún, resultado de siglos de opresión e injusticia. Son un intento de sensibilizar al espectador a través de rostros que nos lleven a reconocernos e identificarnos como seres humanos que somos, que no solo compartimos el mundo sino los propios sentimientos. Los formatos son grandes porque son rostros que necesitan ocupar espacio para ser visibilizados, con toda la dignidad y humanidad que se les ha negado históricamente.

No, no somos iguales.. SOMOS LO MISMO!!

Large format oil portraits that began with a wonderful trip that Raúl Barajas and I took to Peru and Bolivia at the end of 2019. Project born from the mind and heart of Miguel Benavides with the support of the Dame Jillian Sackler International Artists Exhibition Program and of course the always unconditional support of my great Raúll, extraordinary photographer.

The painting of indigenous portraits is for me an act of resistance, a gesture of empowerment, visibility and memory of the native peoples, of their wisdom, of their alternative ways of understanding reality, of perceiving and creating life. The paintings are an act aimed at dismantling the classism and racism that still prevails, the result of centuries of oppression and injustice. They are an attempt to sensitize the viewer through faces that lead us to recognize and identify ourselves as the human beings that we are, who not only share the world but the same feelings. The formats are large because they are faces that need to occupy space to be made visible, with all the dignity and humanity that has historically been denied to them.

We are the same..!
