I’m forever grateful to Ramona, leader of the Comcaac community, for the opportunity to photograph and paint her, and to my dear friend Jorge Ayala for making the visit to Seri territory possible, an unforgettable trip I hold dear to my heart. Many thanks also to @shazafshin ; all achievements are always a community achievement, never an individual one.

The Comcaac, or Seri ethnic group reside in the state of Sonora, in northern Mexico, on the desert coast and on the island known as Tiburón, the largest in the country. They have endured persecution, extreme climates, and lack of water, maintaining their customs; they are one of the few ethnic groups that has not been conquered neither colonized.

La etnia Comcaac o Seri reside en el estado de Sonora, en el norte de México, en las costas del desierto y en la isla que hoy es conocida como la Isla Tiburón, la isla más grande del país. Han sido un pueblo que ha resistido la persecución, el clima extremo y la falta de agua, manteniendo sus costumbres; es de las pocas etnias que no fue conquistada ni colonizada.
